Hatem Ben Arfa is eager to avoid comparisons with Newcastle United hero Laurent Robert.
Former Toon coach Steve Carver has likened the Marseille loan signing to Robert.
But Ben Arfa told the Evening Chronicle: "I knew that Robert was popular, but since getting here, I see he was very popular player indeed.
"But we aren't the same type of player.
"The only similarity is that we are left-footed.
"I am pleased that Laurent had such a good time here and hope I can be as popular.
"I hope it can all work out very well and I stay. I am confident that it will."
