Newcastle set to win race for Bournemouth kid Vokes

Newcastle United are hoping to tie up a £250,000 deal for Bournemouth%uFFFDs exciting teenage striker Sam Vokes, reports the Evening Chronicle.

Plans are reportedly well advanced to bring the 18-year-old to St James%uFFFDs Park - and then lend him back to the Division One outfit until the end of the season.

But Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill also has Vokes in his sights and will try and hijack the Magpies deal.

Bournemouth, who are managed by former United coach Kevin Bond, are in administration and any deal for Vokes would certainly bale them out for a couple of weeks.

He has scored 10 goals for Bournemouth in 24 starts this season, including both in the 2-0 victory over Hartlepool earlier this month.
