Newcastle United are expected to loan out striker Phil Airey next month.
The Evening Chronicle says the Amble-born striker, who got a goal in the Kilmarnock match, is out of contract in the summer and has been told he has plenty of hard work ahead of him if he is to win a new deal.
The player has not figured in the FA Premier Reserve League this season following an ill-fated move to Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.
But the Academy graduate returned in the friendly loss to Killie this week and scored in front of a watching Alan Pardew.
