Newcastle United are keen to open contract talks with Andy Carroll.
The Daily Mail says Newcastle are set to open contract talks with striker Carroll, and end interest from Stoke City and Birmingham in the 21-year-old.
The club hope to convince him to stay on by handing him the coveted No 9 shirt by Toon boss Chris Hughton, rubber-stamping him as Alan Shearer's strike successor.
