Newcastle United are interested in Hamburg striker Mladen Petric.
The 30 year-old centre-forward is seen at Newcastle as a potential replacement for Andy Carroll, who was sold in January to Liverpool.
Toon chief scout Graham Carr has been in Germany in recent weeks checking on potential transfers.
Petric is inside the final 18 months of his Hamburg deal and carries a price-tag of £5 million.
