Michael Owen has suffered an injury setback after straining a thigh in Newcastle training yesterday.

But Sam Allardyce, the Newcastle manager, insisted yesterday that it is a minor injury and the forward could return to play in the friendly at home to Juventus in eight days' time.

"We are taking a precautionary measure and leaving him out," Allardyce said.
