Newcastle United saw off competition from Olympique Marseille for Florian Lejeune.

The defender left Eibar over the summer for Newcastle, though was also on the shopping list of OM.

La Provence reporter Alexandre Jacquin confirmed the French giants seriously considered signing Lejeune before he signed for the Toon.

"Finally, in defence, there was also the opportunity for Florian Lejeune (now in Newcastle).

"But he did not fill all the boxes for OM," Jacquin posted to social media.
