Newcastle defender Steven Taylor added to the Magpies injury worries when it was revealed he suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem.

Taylor first injured the ankle against Arsenal last month and after returning on the weekend, had to be substituted when it flared up again.

"We felt Steven was ready to start and he'd had a good couple of days' training," manager Alan Shearer told the club's official website.

"But he felt it again and we had to take him off at half-time.

"He'll have a scan on Tuesday so we'll know more then."
