Newcastle's Pardew irate at non-red card decision in Chelsea loss

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was left furious after his side were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea today.

The Magpies were unlucky to go down by three goals and maybe could have even got a better results if referee Mike Dean had made a different decision in the fourth minute of the match.

Demba Ba got on the end of a through ball but was brought down just outside the area by David Luiz with only Petr Cech left protecting the Chelsea goal but the Brazilian defender was only shown a yellow card when perhaps a red was the correct call.

Pardew was irate at his post-match interview with Sky Sports, saying that the decision not to send Luiz off denied his team the chance to take maximum points.

"I am going to have to look at the rule book,'' said Pardew. "It's a sending-off, it's as simple as that. It changed the game.

"He's in on goal and he brings him down. I do not understand the logic of referees when that happens. I genuinely believe that the referee got that wrong.''

Whilst Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas admitted his side was lucky to get away with the call.

"We have been treated unfairly for quite some time as well and maybe today the decision fell our way,'' Villas-Boas said. "I'm sure Alan will not be happy.''
