Newcastle's Kantarovski cleared of broken leg

Newcastle Jets wonder boy Ben Kantarovski has been cleared of a broken leg.

The 17-year old reigning Jets Player of the Year was badly hurt in a tackle on Sunday against Perth Glory and had scans yesterday to determine the damage.

The Jets were relieved of initial fears that the Young Socceroo had broken his fibula but the scans cleared him of any break.

Kantarovski is now a slight chance of playing against Gold Coast United on Sunday.

"To be safe he's probably got a two- to four-week injury but more likely he's probably anywhere between seven and 14 days from returning to sport," Jets physio Paul Hazel said.

"I wouldn't write him off for the Gold Coast game just yet, but he may not be back until the Melbourne game after that.

"It'll depend on how he goes once he starts running on it, but at the moment he's looking quite good."

Kantarovski said he feared the worst when he went down but aims to be back in action as soon as possible after making a return from injury on the weekend.

"No player wants to be injured for a long time, and just coming back from an injury is not the best," Kantarovski said.

"It wasn't the kind of comeback you want. I heard something snap but I don't know what it was. Luckily it wasn't one of my bones.

"It depends on how quickly I recover from all the bruising and swelling.

"If it settles down then hopefully I'll be back on the paddock soon."
