Newcastle's Campbell keeping England door ajar

Newcastle United recruit Sol Campbell believes he is still a chance of playing for the England national team.

The 36-year old centre-half has not played for the Three Lions since 2007 when Fabio Capello was installed as Steve McLaren's replacement but feels he still has what it takes to serve his nation at international level.

"I think it all comes down to who is at the helm, the people behind the associations and the mentality of the nation," he said.

"You go to Italy where defenders and keepers go on and on. The names of those guys roll off the tongue.

"If you're still fit and strong and still want it, it shouldn't matter what age you are.

"You have the experience and it shouldn't be a problem."
