Newcastle's Ameobi not worried about injuries to key defenders

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi believes the spirit of the players can carry them over the obstacle of being without two key players this weekend and for the next few weeks.

The Magpies have lost Steven Taylor for the remainder of the season whilst captain Fabricio Coloccini could be on the sidelines for a few weeks but Ameobi says the quality of the squad can cover their absences even after two losses and a draw from their past three outings.

"It's a big blow losing two centre-backs as they have been stalwarts for our team. It will be tough for us - but this fight and desire that people talk about has to come to the fore again," Ameobi told The Chronicle.

"Whoever steps in has to bring everything they've got, but I am sure we will be all right. We just have to stay together as a team. You will lose games, that's a given - it is how we come back and how we respond."
