Sammy Ameobi is eager to put his best foot forward for the England U21 team next week.
The Newcastle United forward has been included in the Young Lions squad for the Bramall Lane friendly with Scotland U21s and is keen to show Roy Hodgson, who has interim control of the team following Stuart Pearce's sacking, that he is worthy of his spot.
"It's great for me, growing up and wanting to play for England, that he's noticed my game recently," said the rangy 21-year old.
"And hopefully I can impress him when we come to play.
"It's good to be back in contention. That's what I want to do and I've had a good start so hopefully I can show what I can do and hopefully I'll be in more squads to come.
"It was early last season when I last got called up but I had a little bit of a niggle in my hamstring so I couldn't do it, which was unfortunate, and then I haven't been in since then.
"So to it's good to know that they're still looking out for me and it's good to be back in the team."
