Newcastle United have confirmed that young striker Sammy Ameobi will be sidelined for months but have not stated which sort of injury he has sustained.
The 19-year old was forced off the pitch in a reserves outing against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday and the Magpies have established that the problem sustained is quite serious.
"Sammy Ameobi will be sidelined for a period of time, likely to be a number of months, as a result of an injury sustained in the reserves' win over Wigan," read a statement on the club's official website.
The absence of Ameobi could force Alan Pardew into the transfer market as he is already without leading scorer Demba Ba for at least a month as he is at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.
