Newcastle United have ruled out bringing in Terry Venables as a firefighter for the remaining games of the season.
The Times says with Newcastle outside the relegation positions in the Barclays Premier League only by virtue of goal difference, there have been regular suggestions that Venables may be appointed on a short-term basis to bring stability, but that possibility can be discounted.
Venables was approached by Mike Ashley, the Newcastle owner, shortly after Kevin Keegan's departure last September, to manage the team on a short-term basis - a request that was rejected - but the club are fully committed to Kinnear and his coaching staff, including Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood.
