Newcastle United are competing with West Ham United for Liverpool winger Stewart Downing.
The Mail on Sunday says Downing will be allowed to decide his own future by Liverpool after interest from Newcastle and West Ham.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is open to the winger moving on because he cannot guarantee him first-team football.
Liverpool will listen to offers of about £6million for Downing, representing a huge loss on a player signed for £20m by the club's former manager Kenny Dalglish.
