Newcastle United are challenging Everton for Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone.
Sky Sports says Toon are moving for Kone after being beaten by Borussia Dortmund for St Etienne striker Pierre Emerik Aubameyang.
He has a £5m buy-out clause in his contract and is looking to activate that following Wigan's relegation in May.
