Newcastle United remain keen on Manchester United defender Craig Cathcart.
The Evening Chronicle says Toon can still sign "emergency" loan deals until the end of November meaning there is still a chance to sign defender Cathart from Manchester United on a temporary basis despite the closure of the transfer window.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to send the Northern Ireland international away on-loan this season.
