Newcastle United have turned down the chance to open talks for Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
The Evening Chronicle says Toon turned down the chance to sign Richards after the Manchester City man was offered their way.
Richards has one year left on his contract at City and is available at a cut-price rate.
Bids of around £8million could be accepted but his huge wage demands are above Newcastle's top earner Fabricio Coloccini, and United are focused on bringing in players they have scouted in the last few years.
