Newcastle United resisted offers from Arsenal and Cardiff City for Papiss Cisse yesterday.
The Daily Express says the Gunners and Bluebirds made contact with Newcastle over a short-term deal for Cisse following the arrival of Dutch striker Luuk De Jong at St James' Park.
But the Magpies were only interested in a permanent deal and that requirement scuppered a move.
