Newcastle United refused to meet the wage demands of Fulham loan signing Darren Bent this week, it has been revealed.
Toon missed out on Aston Villa striker Bent yesterday after he signed on-loan with Fulham.
The Evening Chronicle says their reluctance to match Bent's £75,000 per week wages are understood to be the reason that the Magpies' long bid for the England international collapsed.
