Newcastle United are reportedly interested in breaking their own transfer record in order to swoop for Galatasaray midfielder Badou Ndiaye during the January transfer window.
The Magpies current transfer record came when they forked out £16.8 million in order to purchase Michael Owen from Real Madrid in 2005.
They are reportedly lining up an £18 million bid for Ndiaye.
The 27-year-old Ndiaye came close to joining West Ham during the summer transfer window but instead ended up joining Galatasaray from Osmanlispor.
He has made an impressive start to life at Galatasary and they do not wish to lose him so soon after signing him.
However, Ndiaye could be tempted by a move to the Premier League and a decision could be out of the hands of Gala as he has a release clause of £18 million in his contract.
Turkish newspaper Aksam have claimed that the Magpies are ready to fork out that amount when the transfer window reopens.
