Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton is ready to make a move for Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger.
The 25-year old Republic of Ireland international recently returned from a loan with Middlesbrough after a fall-out with new manager Gordon Strachan and he is now being linked with Championship leaders Newcastle.
He could be sold for around £2.5million and the Magpies may swoop after missing out on Sheffield United's Matthew Kilgallon who could land in the top flight.
