Newcastle ready to make offer to Bolton's Speed

Newcastle United are ready to snap up Bolton Wanderers midfielder Gary Speed after he was relieved of his coaching duties yesterday.

The Daily Mail says Speed now looks certain to leave the Reebok, with former boss Sam Allardyce set to offer him a coaching role at Newcastle.

It was Allardyce who persuaded Bolton's skeptical board to pay £750,000 for Speed three years ago, using ProZone figures to prove Speed was one of the top flight's fittest players despite his advancing years.
