Newcastle United are ready to offer £6 million for Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

The Scottish Sun says Toon will move for McGregor if they sell No1 Shay Given - who is a target for Manchester City and Arsenal.

Newcastle's technical staff emerged from crunch talks over the last 48 hours to earmark McGregor, 26, as their ideal replacement.

Ironically, Scotland squad man McGregor is on the Gunners' radar too after his magnificent form last season alerted Arsene Wenger to his ability.
