Newcastle United are planning a January bid for Wolves striker Benik Afobe.
The People says Toon boss Steve McClaren made enquiries about Afobe in the summer, but no deal was forthcoming and he is now considering an offer when the window opens.
The Geordies slipped to the bottom of the Premier League with Saturday's 6-1 hammering at Manchester City, and have scored just six goals in their eight games so far.
England Under-21 international Afobe was the target of three bids from promoted Norwich in the summer – the highest being of £8million.
That prompted Molineux officials to slap a £14m price-tag on the prolific frontman.
