Newcastle United players will have to wait another week to see if owner Mike Ashley has struck a deal to sell the club to businessman Barry Moat.
Moat's bankers have told him they need more time to consider whether to lend him the money for the proposed £100m deal. If Moat fails to secure the cash, Ashley, who may attend today's home game against Reading, could take the club off the market, says the Daily Mail.
But he faces a player revolt if he reappoints Joe Kinnear as manager after talks with former Leeds boss David O'Leary broke down.
Many players are disillusioned after Alan Shearer was not retained in the job and are dismayed at the prospect of Kinnear's return.
They may demand a clear-the-air meeting with Ashley.
