Newcastle United are following Valencia centre-forward Nikola Zigic.

The Sunday Sun says Toon boss Sam Allardyce pursued Zigic while he was in charge at Bolton and while the 6ft 8in Serbian international was at Racing Santander.

And the now United manager - who is losing Obafemi Martins to the African Nations Cup next month - has been alerted to Zigic's struggle to establish himself at Valencia since moving to Spain in the summer.

Paris St Germain, Werder Bremen and another German club are rivalling Newcastle for a player who made his name at Red Star Belgrade.
