Swansea City defender Ashley Williams is a target for Newcastle United.

The Mirror says Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has put Swansea stopper Williams on his January shopping list.

Pardew has drawn up a list of possible new centre-backs after losing Steven Taylor to injury for the rest of the season, and Wales international Williams is on it after impressing in the top-flight this season.

The 27-year-old helped Swansea record their ninth clean sheet in Monday's 2-0 win at Aston Villa.

Swans manager Brendan Rodgers has slapped an £8million price-tag on Williams to try to scare off suitors, but Newcastle hope they can get him for £5m - and will offer him a big rise on his current £15,000-a-week salary.
