Newcastle open talks with Cardiff striker Bothroyd

Newcastle United have opened talks with Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd.

Bothroyd is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with Fulham, Birmingham, Blackburn and Everton but Magpies boss Alan Pardew fancies his chances.

The 28-year-old Bothroyd, who made his England debut against France in November, could expect to treble his £10,000-a-week wages by moving to St James' Park.

Talks are set to continue after Sunday's derby with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
