Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow admits he was close to leaving last summer.
The former Nottingham Forest No1, however, says he is now focused on a future with the Magpies.
He told the Toon match programme: “I think patience is probably the main word.
“It was a strange start to the season – I didn't know whether I was coming or going – but I managed to handle it. That's gone now, that's in the past, and now I'll keep moving forward.
“Whilst I'm contracted here, obviously you have to give your lot to whatever club you're at at the time. I'm still contracted here for a good few years yet. I didn't lose focus on what I was doing here."
Meanwhile, Toon boss Rafa Benitez admits he's left this week's transfer work to the front office.
After victory at Stoke City, he said: “We are trying to do our best (with transfers), and we will see what can happen. But now it is about enjoying today and trying to concentrate on the next game.
“Everyone has to do his job."
