Newcastle United must go higher to land Olympique Marseille winger Florian Thauvin.

The Evening Chronicle says Newcastle may have to stump up around £14 million if they want to sign Thauvin.

Sources in France suggested the Magpies had sounded out Marseille with a projected offer of £10.7million, only for the bid to be dismissed.

The 22-year-old is a long-term target of United and has been on chief scout Graham Carr's radar for some time.
