Newcastle United have moved to trump Manchester United for Barnsley defender Mason Holgate.
The teen has jus completed a three-day trial at Carrington where he impressed United coaching staff.
The Yorskshire Post says Barnsley were poised to collect £1m from the sale of Holgate to Manchester United.
But Newcastle United have made a late bid for the top prospect.
