Newcastle midfielder Barton tweets delight with derby win

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton tweeted his delight with their derby win over Sunderland.

But he was unhappy with the 'goal' he was denied when an amazing blunder by World Cup Final referee Howard Webb also allowed Seb Larsson to escape an automatic red card.

The Swedish forward clearly prevented Barton's header hitting the target in the 13th minute when the ball struck his outstretched arm and was deflected over the bar.

"Devastated that neither of my goals counted today," tweeted Barton.

"One was a correct decision, the other was definitely handball. Ah well."

But the 28-year-old midfielder praised his team's performance and the support they received from the Toon Army.

He said: "Great performance from the lads today. Always nice to win a derby game. Fans were different class. Good day and night ahead."

He continued his recently acquired penchant for eloquent quotations with a word about the rival supporters from Wearside.

"Embrace ur enemies for they bring out the best in you."
