Newcastle United U21 coach Willie Donachie is backing Paul Dummett and Conor Newton to win the Scottish League Cup with St Mirren this weekend.

St Mirren face Hearts in the final with both Toon kids set to feature.

Donachie told nufc.co.uk: "To play in a cup final, you can't replicate that in training. Playing with men, playing for a living - the manager could get the sack at Bradford if they lose too many games - that's what it's all about, that intensity.

"It's been fantastic for him and he's at the age now where he's got to kick on, really keep working and get to the next level."
