Newcastle United have made a £9 million bid for Saint-Etienne striker Bafe Gomis.

The Mirror says top-level sources on Tyneside and in France claim that an offer has gone in and Les Verts are considering whether or not to accept the bid or hold out for more money.

St Etienne wanted a stunning £12m for Gomis but Newcastle's offer is likely to be the best they will get. Bolton are also keen but their £7m bid falls short.
