Newcastle United have made an offer for Nancy defender Massadio Haidara according to Sky Sports.
The 20-year old French left-back, who attracted interest from Aston Villa in the summer, is the subject of a reported £2million bid from the Magpies.
However, it is believed that Newcastle will have to do battle with Italian club AS Roma who are also showing considerable curiosity. Haidara even suggests that he would rather head to the Serie A than the Premier League.
"I prefer Roma to Newcastle, as I prefer Serie A," Haidara he recently told TMW.
"I'd love to play in Italy, though Newcastle are also a good team.
"I know that my agent has spoken to both clubs, we'll see what happens. As far as I am concerned, I'd love to play in Italy."
