Newcastle United remain hopeful of securing Geordie pair Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor to new contracts.
The Sunday Sun says a four-year contract for Carroll is in the offing while negotiations with Taylor are "ongoing".
The player himself is still a fortnight away from returning to fitness.
