Newcastle United are eyeing Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez.
Toon chief scout Graham Carr has been active in the German transfer market this season - and been spotted at Bayern games.
Gomez is seen at Newcastle as the ideal replacement for Andy Carroll following his record January move to Liverpool.
Ironically, Gomez twice missed out on a move to Anfield this season - in the final hours of the summer market and also in January.
The centre-forward is keen on a move to England and Newcastle hope to convince him about continuing his career on Tyneside.
