According to a report published by talkSPORT, Newcastle United could be set to swoop for Benfica defender Lisandro Lopez during the January transfer window.

The Argentina international has struggled for game time and has only made 28 appearances during his four years with Benfica.

Though he boasts four appearances for the Argentina national team, he last appeared for his country in 2012. There is a good chance that Lopez will be hoping to secure a move in January in order to reignite his career and play on a more regular basis.

Rafa Benitez is likely to make some reinforcements during the January transfer window in order to try and ensure that his side remains in the Premier League next season.
