Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald fears Emmanuel Riviere will struggle without the right support behind him.
Supermac wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "Emmanuel Riviere is battling for his first Premier League goal - and that's because he needs help.
"The way Newcastle United are set up Riviere is the lone striker and, believe me, that's a difficult job.
"Riviere hasn't the equipment to play on his own. He needs bodies around him quickly and United have no one capable of doing that regularly.
"What he requires is my old team-mate Terry McDermott, a terrific midfielder with a great engine who could and would run beyond the main striker.
"Terry Mac could score goals - he went on to do it regularly with Liverpool and England. He is what Riviere requires before a ball player like Remy Cabella or whoever.
"The trouble is United don't have a breaking midfielder with pace and power to run all day plus the ability to stay calm and finish."
