Newcastle legend SuperMac: Carroll not ready for England
Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald has backed Fabio Capello's decision not to call up new Toon hero Andy Carroll.
Macdonald was at Wolves on Saturday to watch Carroll, 21, enhance his reputation as a new Geordie star by heading his fourth goal in three Premier League games. But that wasn’t enough to earn him an England call-up against Bulgaria.
“I’m not at all surprised he’s in the Under-21s and not the full squad,” SuperMac told the Daily Star.
“I know Capello is supposed to be looking at new young talent for the England squad but Carroll isn’t ready yet. The best way to destroy people is to put them in too early.”
