Newcastle United legend Malcolm Macdonald can't believe the manufactured moaning over Wonga's sponsorship.
Supermac feels outside of Tyneside there is an "anti-Newcastle" agenda with some radio stations and the national media up in arms at the connection with the financial institution.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "The percentage points at the end of the loans have more figures since the year Jesus Christ was born.
"However, whatever way you butter it up, it is still something people are using as a service.
"It is serving a purpose to somebody.
"I look at other products and you think, 'what is not a rip off these days?' There are other teams sponsored by financial institutions, betting firms and such like.
"You have to tread carefully with your money these days and be careful in what you sign up for.
"However, I don't see why Newcastle United are different to anybody else."
Macdonald reckons Wonga will be pleased with their business so far.
He said "Wonga must be in a state of disbelief here.
"They are gaining more publicity out of this than they could have imagined.
"They must want to be associated with the club for years to come."
