Newcastle legend Solano says transfer market will be tough for Magpies

Newcastle United hero Nobby Solano believes Newcastle will struggle next season if they don't invest heavily in their squzd.

The Magpies are back in England's top flight after one season in the Championship and Solano claims that due to their location and status as the newly promoted club, they could struggle to attract talent.

"They need to spend money, I think everybody can see that," Solano told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"Staying up will be hard enough, mid-table would be a massive success and getting anywhere near the top six would be something very special indeed.

"But first and foremost they need to spend money to make a fight of it.

"How much will Mike Ashley make available? Well, we'll know on deadline day.

"The hardest thing is attracting players.

"Unfortunately, Newcastle won't be every player's first or even second choice this summer. That's a big shame.

"Somebody like me knows that it's a great city, great fans and great potential and I'd recommend it to any player who asked me.

"But agents will steer their players elsewhere and that's what is difficult.

"So can Mr Ashley offer more wages? We'll have to see."
