Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is unhappy with the wages now on offer in the Premier League.
Players' astronomical wages trouble Shearer, even though he acknowledges he was handsomely paid himself.
"I would have played football anyway even if I didn't get paid," he told the Daily Star. "Footballers now get stupid amounts of money.
"Is it right? Of course not. It wasn't right when I was being paid it
"There are far more important people in the world, like those who save lives. But you can't blame the players.
"Having that much money can have such a negative effects on a player. Particularly when they are so young.
"Which might be one of the reasons why we aren't producing as many young players as we should. We give them too much too young."
