Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer backs Liverpool's appointment of Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in the Anfield hot-seat last week after Reds owners Fenway Sports Group called time on the Northern Irishman's three-year reign.
"Brendan Rodgers had sadly failed to really take Liverpool on from where he found them," Shearer wrote in The Sun.
"Yes, they had that one tilt at the title but by the time he left the club after three years they were really no better off than when he had arrived.
"I remember when he went to Tottenham a couple of seasons ago and claimed because they had spent £100million they should be challenging for the title.
"Well he spent around £300m and while, yes, there was income from sales, that is a hefty lump for no return. Some have tried to point the finger at the owners in the blame game for Liverpool's barren spell in the big competitions. But in their defence, any money gained from the sales of the likes of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling have been ploughed back into the club.
"Rodgers looked a good appointment but sadly he lost his way, while landing Klopp could be one of the best moves they will ever make."
