Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is uninspired by what he sees coming through the England setup.

He wrote in The Sun: "For the first time I can remember we went to the last major tournament in Poland and Ukraine without any great expectations.

"In that sense, we did not disappoint.

"It's all gone a bit stale and I don't see much hope for the future.

"I don't see the young players coming through who can give us any great cause for optimism.

"The Champions League this season has shown us where the Premier League is at and the England team is showing where we are at internationally."
