Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer can see John Carver keeping the manager's job.

Shearer believes Mike Ashley is so unpredictable he could stick with Carver for next season.

"How can you second guess the guy Mike Ashley? He's the guy that hired Joe Kinnear, he sacked Kevin Keegan, he sacked Sam Allardyce. He brought in Dennis Wise as director of football.

"I know the city, I know the football club and I know John Carver and I haven't got a clue what (Ashley)'s going to do. Actions speak louder than words. So time will only tell."
