Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton will miss the club's preseason camp in Mallorca after being freed from jail yesterday.

The Sun says the shamed midfielder is expected back in training on Tyneside within the next 24 hours following his release from jail.

Newcastle set off for a mini-tour in Mallorca tomorrow but will leave Scouser Barton behind to work on his fitness after spending the last two months banged up.

Barton, 25, misses the friendlies against Hertha Berlin on Friday and Sunday's with Real Mallorca.

But he will be eyeing the season-opener at Manchester United on Sunday, August 17, to make his controversial return.
