Newcastle United completed a late night deal for Olympique Marseille fullback Habib Beye yesterday.

The 29-year-old Beye, who can operate at right-back or centre-back, arrives from French outfit Marseille, where he was skipper, and has also represented his native Senegal.

He featured in both legs of the Ligue 1 side's UEFA Cup semi-final victory over United in 2004.
